RILO KILEY- More Adventurous
As the indie rock generation ages, now far into their thirties at least, the music made by their historical cohort matures as well. Is this something to fear and deny? Well, no, not really, not anymore. The inevitability of aging is a fact of life, it is what happens. To pretend to be young forever smacks of willful naivety, which can be annoying at any age. Music can help provide a demonstration of how to better approach this often difficult transformation. As bands progress, it is far better and more sensible to age inwardly, to grow and develop, and to continue to try new things, but not to surrender to the fickle whims of current taste. Rilo Kiley’s new one sums up this process: it is a becoming More Adventurous. Neither dormant nor capricious, More Adventurous accomplishes an impressive thing: it is good adult-oriented indie rock. Is maturity always a bad thing?
