Nice new stuff from the skinny avatar of the freaky and weird New York neo-folk underground. Or should we say former underground? Let’s face it: from Spin magazine to the art school kids down the hall, everyone already loves this guy. His quirky lyrics, gentle voice, worldly personality, dreamy good looks, and all-round nice touch have a universal, perhaps even a cosmic appeal. Nino Rojo has more of the same T-Rex light magic we’ve come to anticipate and love from the guy, produced with the same intimate bedroom quality heard on Rejoicing in the Hands, also released this year. Evening advice: put this new one in the multi CD player with Joanna Newsome, Coco Rosie, P. G. Six, and Vetiver, press shuffle and repeat, get way wasted, lie down, and let Eternity peacefully pour into your soul. Far out, man. Avail Sept 13th
