When Gregor Samsa woke up to discover he had been transformed into a giant cockroach, he should have channeled his existential despair into dystopian rock opera, rather than pace around his tiny apartment. He would have been fine company for Manchester’s The Clinic, who themselves trapped in a Kafka-esque paranoid landscape have delivered their best recording to date – the surrealistic wonderland pop of ‘Winchester Cathedral’. Featuring their trademark beat-driven Silver Apples-esque time signatures, these four surgical masked rockers take the adventurous listener on an enchanted ride through their simmering sonic terrain of psyched out prog rock! If psychedelica has a dark side, the Clinic have crossed over into it, as standouts like ‘Falstaff and ‘WDYYB’ burn with a sinister waltz feel. Brown acid freak-out baby!
