Let’s pause and appreciate the style and wisdom of this title. What more could follow such self-praising analysis? However, we know Quasi, the power pop duo of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss, a little better than this, don’t we? Surely what they mean is the opposite of what they’re saying. They probably think their Hot Shit is warm at best. But in actual fact this claim ends up really meaning exactly what it says. Hot Shit is Hot Shit! Indeed, it burns. Ah, such is irony—sitting on both sides of the fence at once. As we can tell, Quasi get this deeply. Not only smart like this, they also have some serious chops. This is probably why they’re on Touch and Go now, who know good chops when they hear them. The songs on Hot Shit are smart, catchy, kind of quirky and a bit dark. This is precisely how and why we like Quasi. Hot Shit—for once the burning is good. Available Sept 9th.
