JOSH ROUSE- 1972
Emotions glanced at from a distance seem most portentous. Vast wheat fields, low storm clouds and quiet rail towns hold the imbued metaphorical power of isolation, loneliness and elegiac beauty. These stark images are the lyrical fodder of Mr. Josh Rouse’s latest audio eulogy to the ragged glory of the hedonistic 70’s decade. These powerfully emotive songs come off like a celebration of a bitter sweet time when self-abandon and rock’n’roll went hand and hand. This is mellow music with plenty of sway and barbiturate beat. All the excommunicated greats of the 70s including The Stones, Crazy Horse and Big Star, are given emancipation from their bad-boy exile, as Rouse reinterprets their decadent vision. This is a gorgeous record – Lick you wounds and listen!
