Florida might make you think Miami bass and fixed elections and normally you would be right. This time, however, we’re talking about Florida’s Sam Beam and his new Iron & Wine EP, The Sea and The Rhythm. Culled from the tapes sent to Sub Pop that made up last year’s amazing The Creek Drank the Cradle, this five song disc offers more of Beam’s beautiful four track music. Lo-fi yet lushly textured, Beam combines the feel of Bedhead-era bedroom rock with the storytelling charm of American folk music. These highly personal songs run the gamut of traditional themes, gently modernized with a wash of layered guitar and vocals, each song more subtle and compelling than the last. Iron & Wine will make you think twice about the swampy state.
