Stereolab co-founder Laetitia Sadier returns with a sophomore release under the Monade (Mo-Nahd) moniker. With Stereolab freed from the bureaucratic tentacles of their former major label, Laetitia has had more private time on her hands to re-explore the cinematic glories that graced her bigger groop’s early days on Duophonic and Too Pure. This extra attention immediately shows on A Few Steps More, which captures Sadier’s penchant for breezy lounge-prog explorations and smart melodic instrumental interplay. For example, as its title suggests, Wash and Dance, the opening track, gracefully sways on a blend of tight bass and beats, awash with shimmering tones and plush harmonies. Add Laetitia’s angelic chanteuse vocals to this mixture and A Few Steps More becomes a truly delightful release, appealing to both old fans and the curious.
