LCD SOUNDSYSTEM- s/t
For generations young people have danced because they need release. Be it to the music of Elvis Presley, James Brown, Gang of Four, Derrick May’s Detroit Techno, British House, or more recently Andre 3000, the dance floor has always served as a public space for the expression and alleviation of the social and political tensions inherent to modern living. Today in the clubs of Brooklyn, Manhattan and even Vancouver, the youth are enthusiastically gathering to listen and move to the sounds of DFA Records’ James Murphy, a.k.a. LCD Soundsystem. Consistently filling the floor, Murphy’s eclectic and punchy début is mandatory listening, the current edge of the perpetual cultural revolution. On the surface it collects the energy created by great artists such as Prince, Brian Eno, Can, Gang of Four, P.I.L., Michael Jackson, The Fall, Suicide, New Order, The Jam, Blondie, The Velvets and of course Daft Punk, but in its synthesis it offers the potential for so much more – the latest thing in expressive de-sublimation!
