TV on the Radio caught most of us by surprise with their brilliant debut EP “Young Liars” in 2003. The long wait is over and the full length album is finally here, thanks to Touch and Go Records. Tunde Adebimpe’s powerful voice is impossible to ignore; he is oft compared to the likes of Peter Gabriel or Pere Ubu’s David Thomas, comparisons that make perfect sense after a few listens. Multi-instrumentalist David Andrew-Sitek, who produced the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ records, lays down dense melodic lines which groove and sway beneath Adebimpe’s wailing vocals. Nick Zinner of the YYYs even makes a guest appearance on the record, which moves effortlessly between epic pop song structures and unexpected stripped down acapella numbers. Possibly the most unique of the new crop of Brooklyn-based buzz bands, TVOTR are one band worthy of the hype.
