PEDRO THE LION-Achilles' Heel
Over the past five stellar releases, the perfect pop trajectory has stirred David Bazan’s path to indie and now predictably more mainstream success. Like fellow ‘precious-pop’ predecessors Built to Spill, Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse, the workman formula of consistent songwriting, timeless melodies and heartbreakingly beautiful lyricism has left Pedro The Lion with its cult following and for Bazan, a revered appreciation for his poetic, earnest and spiritual sonic vision. Critics agree, this is his finest moment, and unlike its namesake this album will not falter as with Achilles’Heel, the fans that joined him with 2002’s Control as well as invite the new indie rock congregation, are keen for his splendid escapism American suburban ennui.
