THE CLIENTELE- The Violet Hour
Here is some more great music for (classic) indie rock enthusiasts longing for
the heyday of literate and winsome, guitar-driven intelligent pop, ala Galaxie
500, Felt and the rest of their bespectacled, book-reading ilk. No nostalgia
here, though, more an adult connoisseurship, an informed and decidedly
satisfied choice. In other words, this is fantastic living room music for
social drinkers. And frankly, we welcome this music with great relief: "At
last," we calmly exclaim, "something to play for company during after dinner
coffee that isn't downtempo." Then again, everyone will be happy to hear The
Violet Hour, even non-new homeowners, such as the rest of us. Indeed, there is
something worthwhile for everyone: The Clientele's enjoyably daydream-like
aesthetic is muted, blurred and open for interpretation. Available July 8th
