EYEDEA & ABILITIES -E&A
Following in the footsteps of their stylistically comparable indie hip hop peers Atmosphere and Sage Francis by signing on with Epitaph Records, Rhymesayers mainstay Oliver Hart (aka Eyedea) and the always rock solid DJ Abilities drop undoubtedly their strongest effort to date. The production here is noticeably in a different league than on previous releases, thus giving Abilities’ minimalist beat style and impressive scratch techniques the chance to really lay down the foundation for Eyedea’s jaw dropping lyrical flows. Definitely a candidate for fastest MC, especially given the lightning fast vocal delivery on the first single “Now”, Eyedea drops the science on both sides of the personal/political fence and exercises impressive wisdom beyond his twenty years. Spin magazine’s so-called “emo-rap revolution” definitely hit hard and crossed over in 2003 with the Rhymesayers, Anticon, Lex, and Def Jux camps leading the way. With “E&A”, Eyedea & Abilities have set the bar high for 2004.
