Fun With Trail Mix
Saelan: If Mark didn't want us to touch his nuts, he shouldn't leave them hanging out like this. Jill: They're salty! Saelan: But also sweet, because of the Smarties he puts in here.

Are you ready for the (Vampire) Weekend?
I had an interesting discussion this morning about the way a band functions when under the microscope of media attention. Navigating the high wires of success Vampire Weekend (this week's Zulu Top Seller) have 3 months to balance the hype before the show rolls into Vancouver's Richards on Richards. Regardless on where you stand on these guys, it is nice to see music as the cultural thermometer of the times.

Saturday Looks Okay to Me, I Guess
Crawled into work after last night's double-header of Yeasayer at the Bourbon and Victoria, Victoria! at the Cambrian Hall (both great). Feeling the effects and the vacuum isn't working. We've got Phosphorescent on the stereo. LOTS of new titles going in the listening booths today. Melanie's trying to persuade me to go see the monster truck show tonight. I dunno. Sword of Doom is playing at the Cinematheque.

Mon.Apr.21.08 Handsome Furs
Dan B. from Wolf Parade is chalking up an impressive tour resume for this duo with his lover! Starting with the emotional grit of his bigger band, Dan makes some amazingly edgy sounds a la Suicide meets Springsteen in Nebraska. This show is a must see.

Mon.Apr.28.08 Peter Moren
Peter of Peter, Bjorn and John returns to Vancouver to support is acclaimed debut solo release! More sedate than his catch material a la Young Folks, this is pure singer-songwriter terrain and offeres a more sensitive side of things. Recommended - plus the new Biltmore is cool.

Wed.Apr.30.08 Sons and Daughters
All the way from the streets of Glasgow comes this awesome rock band that dials in a splendid blend of Cramps meets Bad Seeds murder ballads. There is something really appealing about this band's straight up creepy seduction!

Be there.
